Campaign to end use of wildlife in TCM mooted
Animals Asia has been invited to work with Chinese officials to develop a public awareness campaign against wildlife use in traditional Chinese medicine. Madam Xiong Beirong, the head of the Wildlife Protection Department under Sichuan Forestry, made the suggestion at a recent meeting after hearing our concerns about contaminants in bear bile and the danger these could pose to consumers. She also agreed to work towards the rescue of more bears early next year, once a major inspection of bear bile farms has been completed.
Moon Bear Rescue
River House cubs
One recent Friday our bear team caught the 'Tam Dao Tearaways' behaving as juveniles do - with joy and abandon! The team had put the metal pool filled with wood chips into the den where Mara, Mausi, Olly, Marvin and Lexi live together, and stood back to watch their reaction.
